Ways of Seeing
By reducing the art of drawing to its simplest elements before going on to more complex forms and the use of colour, Ruskin emphasizes the importance of observation of natural forms and graduated study to learn all forms of art and develop personal creativity.
This course will lead students through fundamental drawing and painting practices in a variety of media that will sharpen ways of seeing and looking alongside building strong practical skills.
Using John Ruskin’s book ‘The Elements of Drawing’ as a basis for the learning journey, we will use examples of traditional and contemporary artists work that reflect the importance of ‘looking’ and ‘seeing’ in their practice.

As part of the course we will be using the Barn at Ruskinland, near to Bewdley, as a base for landscape painting and sculpture.
